FentaSim

Link to FentaSim on the App Store

FentaSim is an educational tool used for understanding and visualizing the effect-site concentration of fentanyl.

Anesthesiologists and other clinicians involved with anaesthesiology or pain medicine, from residents to the very experienced, will find FentaSim a valuable tool for understanding rational dosing strategies tailored to individual patients.

The simulations use a (weight proportional) pharmacokinetic model published by Scott et al. to estimate and graph plasma and effect-site concentrations, and to estimate the decrement time to a user specified effect-site concentration.

Drug entry system allows recording of fentanyl bolus dose and infusion rates real-time or retrospectively from intra-operative record. Dosing history is limited to ten hours.

Further help information and screenshots will be provided in the near future.

About Us

We are anaesthetists with a passion for pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) simulation and modelling. We have been writing software together since our fellowship days at Stanford University in the early 1990s.

Charles Minto works in private practice in Sydney, Australia.

Thomas Schnider is Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, Kantonsspital St. Gallen, Switzerland.

As long as faculty in the research universities are expected simultaneously to perform research, teaching, advising, university service and outside professional activities, teaching and advising will continue to receive low priority.
